The project around the Sower education project and Linda’s Girl child empowerment was started in 2015 from a number of local people with good intentions who wanted to show their good hearts.
In the spacious slums of Langas, around Eldoret ( an important city in the northwest of Kenya, not so far from the border with Uganda), there are only a few schools fot a population of more than 200,000 inhabitants.
The firts years, esspacially with the onset of the pandamic ( Covid 19), were difficult end there was also a lot of doprout from the school, especially of girls.
There are currently 312 students in the primary school ( from 4 to 15 years old) and in the sewing worschop again this year 52 young ladies have completed their training as seamstresses and obtained a certificate.
I came intro contact with the project by getting to know the people behind it during the international post-corona movement.
A movement that emerged from Flanders tot think about building a better world after the pandemic. The people begind the projoct in Eldoret participated in the online meetings with people from all over the world. The contact between them en me has continued end has become more steadfast.
In the beginning, material support was mainly given to offer the children a meal, to pay the teachers a little and to carry out the lessons in the sewing workshop, but the focus soon shifted to improving the school building, constructing new latrines and creating all kinds of options for dealing with rainwater and drinking water.
Constructing a well, installing a tank to collect rainwater, installing water pipes. Later also installation of electricity.
With the support of the municipality of Beveren, a large piece of land was also put into use to grow food, corn and vegetables and a fish well was constructed. Also with the support of the World Council of the municipality of Beveren, a few safe overnight accommodations were created to offer students and women protection to stay overnight on the school grounds.
